Unleashing our next era of growth, with Bending Spoons
WeTransfer joins the Bending Spoons portfolio of digital businesses
As we reflect on our achievements over the last 15 years and the vibrant community of creators that we represent, it’s humbling to see WeTransfer as a platform of choice for so many of you, moving ideas at scale and building your creative businesses.
Today, I am excited to unveil our next milestone, one that will unleash our next chapter of growth: WeTransfer has been acquired by Bending Spoons, a leading technology company. It’s an exciting time to join their suite of digital technology products next to Evernote, Issuu, Meetup, and Remini among others.
Since inception, we’ve been on a journey to connect the world with creativity and it wouldn’t have been possible without your continued trust. 2 billion files transferred every month by 80 million active users, including 600+ thousand subscribers, is not just any achievement. We’ve stayed healthy and profitable, while donating more than €1 million to 72+ emerging artists and organizations through our Supporting Act Foundation.
The journey to double down on evolving our product portfolio started a few years ago as we set out to build new features on the foundations of our beautifully simple file transfer service. So far, we’ve unveiled an entirely new collaboration hub Portals & Reviews, added new tools for building your brand, and you can now earn money from selling your files directly on WeTransfer, without the middleman and extortionate fees. As well as greater security standards, access controls, new ways to manage your work on-the-go and thousands of other improvements, on and under the hood.
To our users and partners, as part of Bending Spoons, WeTransfer will continue to serve your creative tooling needs with even more intent, innovation, and excellence. We have complete trust in Luca Ferrari and the team in the synergies our companies can unlock.
A note from Luca Ferrari, co-founder and CEO, Bending Spoons
It’s a pleasure to write to you on behalf of Bending Spoons, the new owner of WeTransfer.
When the possibility of acquiring WeTransfer presented itself, we moved swiftly to make it happen. There’s so much about WeTransfer that impresses us. First and foremost, it’s a terrific product that solves a real, widespread need—and does so better than most competitors. This provides a solid foundation to build upon, with plenty of potential to enhance WeTransfer’s usefulness even further. Additionally, the brand is extremely strong, particularly among creatives, which is no small achievement and offers great promise for the future.
We appreciate the commitment the WeTransfer team has made to social responsibility and the creative community over the years, and we want to carry the torch:
We’ve pledged to donate at least $3 million to The Supporting Act Foundation over the next two years. The Foundation’s mission is to support emerging artists and artist-led groups from under-represented communities.
We’ve also pledged to continue reserving 30% of WeTransfer’s advertising space to give-back campaigns and editorial content for the foreseeable future.
Additionally, WePresent will keep showcasing the work of deserving creators, including emerging artists.
Finally, I want to thank Alex and everyone at WeTransfer for placing their faith in Bending Spoons. And I want to thank you—the WeTransfer users and customers—in advance for your feedback and support as we move into this new era.
